All power is within....

For a long time i always think we are really obsessed with our goodness, our greatness so much that we never think there can ever be an iota of possibility of improvement... The moment someone ever points out something be even anyone amongst us...we immediately resort to ' offence is the best defense
' strategy and leave no stones upturned to ridicule the person in front, and it is needless to say that... the said topic dies a premature death and the question of improvement is sure not to be reborn... Whenever someone somewhere says India needs to be safer, cleaner, more disciplined country etc...our patriotic guns are already up in arms with defensive examples of countries like A,P,I,S and what not....why we never bother to look a bit higher? If someone is making his/ her country worse it's their issue. Let's look up to better places in the world. Today everyone traveling length and breadth of the world ,I am sure has no dearth of knowledge of more disciplined, more honest, more ethical , more punctual and progressive countries.... so why we don't give such examples? Why knowingly or unknowingly we love to level ourselves as ' we r doing the best' and ' India hai, idhar sab chalta hai'... why and how long ? We r the best workers, the most productive brains, the best human hearts and the most disciplined lot till we reach the Indian border and inside India, we ....start spitting incessantly even in the so called worshiping places, pushing someone to go ahead, bribing to give a seat to our own undeserving ward when deserving ones are standing in line, crossing every traffic light till traffic police takes a Rs.100 note or there is an irreversible death warrant issued within no time for self and co commuters !...the list is endless... why am i writing this? There is an intention... i feel someone someday may read my thoughts and feel how i feel.. and will feel and act and may be that will make a difference and will let me die with little more satisfaction.. we all can do our bit..it reminds me a story read in my son's Hindi prose, "Desh prem "...where the writer has given insight how each of us can make or break our country's pride and never to think ' what can i do alone?'The story somewhat is as follows in short..." An Indian monk goes to Japan and that day as he was fasting, was searching for fruits and did not get any in that area and says in disgust " what a country, you don't get a fruit'...Suddenly a boy comes from behind and offers him a basket of fruits"..Happily the monk thank and asks how much to pay and he politely says " welcome, my price is,please don't tell anyone that my country does not produce fruits and take care of guests"... such even can be patriotism..! And another boy from a different country goes to a foreign University to study and in library when he thinks no one is watching tears few pages of a book and leaves, but gets caught in the flawless detection system and his punishment was " no one from your country will be allowed to study in the University". So is our power to bring pride or shame to our beloved country.... So let's go positive...We all can do, our small little bit and the drops will make the ocean... So let's look a bit higher, let's take our country little further, let's make it safer and better... u and,me,we can do it....sometime.... someone will remember us...forever.. forever.....

Let's do what we can...

One thought is coming to my mind... The amount of time we are today spending in sharing and discussing who should tolerate whom and who says what and what not, i think if we all are really concerned about India and think a bit about the unruly chaotic traffic conditions we have created for ourselves, the filthy roads where even an inch of footpath is not pleasant to walk and the tyres of vehicles get more injuries due to incessant digging of the roads than can ever be imagined, if we think little harder to decrease corruption, our work ethics, all of us at our own personal level, in our official capacity, in work place,in school, college, garden, roads, theatre behave responsibly, work little better,, think little clearer our children will breath purer air, live longer and healthier, our maternal mortality should come down to one of the lowest in the world... Then does it matter really whether it is Hindu/ Muslim/ Christian/ Boudh ,Jain or Parsi development???~ It is India... which needs to go ahead...small countries like Japan, Singapore, Scandinavian countries have so much to teach us,why i wonder...we never like to spread them and never get tired with the obsession of going round and round what Amir/ Shah Rukh or Salman ever say....what they may be saying or doing may be their businesses...but we can do our bit ...we are also living here...India has immense contribution for each of us... we are blessed to be born in a country like India so blessed by nature... let's spare a moment... spare a thought..

India is the largest Democracy in the world but far from being a vibrant democracy….

As President Abraham Lincon described Democracy ,it said  ‘Democracy is by the people, of the people and for the people’ and in India we as of now have not got the essence in true sense. The reasons to ponder over are  here-
1. No democracy can thrive on the imbalance of Duty and Rights. As responsible citizens we ought to respect the country and the fellowmen’s interest far more than we do today and need of the hour is every Indian takes as much responsibility for the common welfare of the country as he/she takes for personal benefit. For example everyone walks on the roads, uses the public transports, takes treatment in hospitals and a large number of citizen never bother about their welfare ,leave aside taking care of them. Our roads, buildings, hospitals  are covered with paan, gutka spits, piled off  garbage on the roads and foot paths by the very people who uses them which surely does not happen in any other  responsible country.
2. Mammoth population increase has made India crying for a disastrous dearth of clean air , water, housing, infrastructure ,health care,  education  and basic amenity availability .And the saddest part is that no one feels or takes any responsibility for this population explosion ..neither the public nor the government.
3.Myriad number of myths, unscientific ,ritualistic blind practices consumes a vast majority of our resources both intellectual, financial and time,  so we are left we no time, money and ideas for development.
4. Baseless beliefs and religious fanaticism has eaten to the roots of the true vedic culture of Indian democracy and any rational voice unfortunately gets murdered within no time by gun fire or bans on either side. Lack of understanding of the basic law of nature and carried away mindset has done more harm to the Indian vibrant culture than anywhere else in the world.
5. Though India is far far more blessed  by Mother Nature than many other  countries in the world in terms of Geography, History, climatic conditions, abundant natural resources and a young human power it lacks any definite agenda for discipline, commitment by the public  and serious leadership to take the country ahead.
6. There is a serious lack of responsibility as far as Indian citizens follow law of the land. Neither the citizens themselves, nor the law enforcing agencies and the Government have really any serious will, introspection for their  disregard  for the lawless attitude which is so firmly placed in other democratic countries of the world. There is a serious and damaging lack of responsibility in Indian mindset while following traffic rules, respecting the sanctity of public places or conducting themselves in a dignified manner.
7. In Indian mindset good conduct, helping someone in crisis or taking interest in public good places a far less important place than vandalizing institution, striking work for small little things , criticizing public or government authorities and still doing nothing to improve the condition of the Great country.
8. Corruption has infiltrated every sphere of life and one does  not get anything done without bribing  and foolishly  people on the other side keep blind eyes to the fact that they are sitting on the other side of coin and it is ultimately their life and battle also.
9. Pollution is a serious problem in India and without responsible citizenship and strong law and committed government to tackle the menace , no one knows when India will bury itself under the pile of filth and plastic as we have no policy in place to deal with it  !

10. The corner stone of any democracy is equality. And India as of now is far far behind any kind of equality be in terms of education, work opportunity and economic standards and the reasons are far complex than looks on the surface and it will be impossible to bring equality among all unless  we all Indians  have a strong desire  to be Indians and only Indians leaving all the barriers of  narrow caste, creed, sections, religions and linguistic barriers….

1986....a tribute....

In life when IS becomes WAS
                              No one ever knows...
In a moment's time, life's ripples
                              Can rise and fall
And it can turn upside down
Before you can cry a call
An Everest can turn
                               To a Pacific
and an Oasis can freeze
                                To a Dead Sea
And no one of us can even have a clue
                      How,why and when
                                Happened these all.....
That's the Power of Time
            The  unforeseen,the unknown...
Or the eternity or whatever
you may like it to call...
Yesterday is only a memory
And Tomorrow is really an illusion
But every tiny second of Today well lived
        Has the power to make
 Our every yesterday's twilight saga
        A lovely fairy tale
And every Tomorrow's dawn
A bouquet of Hope and Love
Many have come and gone
            On this Earth
And all of us standing here today
       Will follow the same path....

Adolescent 1986 became youth 1992
               And slowly and steadily
Turned to vibrant 2011
                And now mature 2015
And we all know
Time will move on and on...
with  its own pace and speed
               And steadily but certainly
It will move from 2015 to 50
And will ask if at all ...none...

Let there be not a villa in Paris
Or a million dollar wealth to rely on
Nor even brilliance and intelligence
                                  To count upon
But we can always have
Love and peace as our bread
And Togetherness and company
      As our shelter....

Who knows Life may not give
Another chance to have another dawn
                        or
May slip behind a veil
     Or even bury somewhere unknown....

So let's be grateful for
     The gift of today
And thank the Almighty
     With heart and soul
In Life when Is becomes Was
                   No one ever knows..
Long live my SCB Batch 86

Is there any dearth really ????

To this very simple as well as complicated question a simple answer comes to my mind...that is ...No , really there is no dearth of anything necessary for the inhabitants of the world...and there is a complicated answer to the complicated part of the question... That is ...Yes,there is...There is a huge dearth of basic understanding of life and its value and implications...

The greatest teacher of the world

Today is a wonderful day...when the world is reeling with the news of insanity, barbarism, murder, all sorts of wrong doings by the so called modern Babas/matas... Nature has gifted us a day to think, understand, analyze, learn and act wisely. Today..Teacher's day and the day the greatest teacher of eternal time was born...Birthday of KRISHNA...the ultimate characters of all times. Dr.Radha Krishnan and Dr.Abdul Kalam somewhat resembled Krishna somewhere and we are fortunate to have them here in India for sometime to follow the principles Krishna taught the world no one certainly can say how many century or how many millennium back...But the teachings he gifted to the world are ageless and all pervasive.. Nothing can deter their value ever. They are equally relevant today as were thousand years back and I am certain will remain the same till the world exists... Nature has always kept it's teachings very basic and simple as Krishna has lived His life and demonstrated in each of His act...ultimately proved we need to travel a certain path to be worthy disciples to understand and live with the basic, simple but vital truths of life and we need to listen to our inner voice and subject ourselves to the process of purification before we are worthy of even getting His indications. The more we learn the small little acts of His everyday life, the more we are absorbed in his sense of duty, justice, equality and handling any situation with the highest standard ever. What more a mortal man need to learn in life? Our lives are tiny bubbles in the vast ocean of the world and our time is fraction of fraction of a moment in comparison to eternity. If we can make ourselves worthy of a learning a few lessons from the life and acts of the greatest teacher of the world...I am certain we will be worthy of His limitless blessings and that will be what He,nature and the world expects from each of us......Long live His teachings.....

Your way matters....

We all are born probably equal and we all are destined to reach the same destination.... That's what divine power has already designed. Most of the things are already  pre -designed  but God has certainly given mankind an iota of His power to work, to conduct ourselves. He has laid down the path before us and given us the feet, the intelligence, the courage and conviction to choose the one road most appropriate.... However small the task look like, how narrow the path look ahead ,our time and ability, our character and integrity is judged by Him on that...That's what today I understand and firmly believe... Giving one example... People often say "I/we did this,I achieved that,I am so rich/successful and famous " or for that matter whenever any good thing happens as per our senses go we invariably try and take the credit...Is it really so !!! I doubt. If we analyse little further we will realise how foolish we are thinking that we are the control centre. What can we control ??? We are only given the minutest to minutest level of control to only act and only act for the moment. If we look back or forth not one more extra moment is in our hand and the beauty of His design is that that moment is universal and all pervasive. Same for poor, rich,Indian,American, black, white,Hindu,Christian, Burmese, Japanese ....anyone you think... Except controlling and training our mind and some of external organs of body we really have no control even on our so called body on which we feel ,we have so much possession and we really feel so so proud about that...If it would have been that then you or me will be controlling our breathing, our heart, our digestive system and the countless cells tirelessly working silently inside !!! That's enough evidence how tiny is our role even in our own life leave aside others... But that tiny role ,that very gifted moment, that very very small step matters, immensely matters and that act of our consciousness really contributes not only for our present, but builds our future and not surprisingly shapes the past even....

As I discussed, this very moment is the treasure of immense value which has the power to build or break the world...if we go to history, mythology, philosophy or human psychology  and analyse we will clearly see that moment,a single thought ,one gesture and one word have made the difference... Whether it is Shrikrishna's 'yada yada hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bharate...' or Duryodhan's  rhetoric 'without war will not give a land measured by the tip of a needle'...all have come from that moment...So that moment matters and how we think and act that really matters. We are here to be our own judge and walk our path.No one can ever do that for us.God has already laid the path and people are there to show us light but we and only we need to walk...and that decides our fate, decisively designs our lives and so called destiny. And the choice of how well or ill I use the moment is mine and completely mine. Whether I choose to ignore or spoil or make someone else's day, something, some place by my thoughts and actions it is completely my choice and that really builds not only individual but also family, society and a country's character in the least...We are here for a limited time and our lives are certainly and thoughtfully designed by God to be restricted within a - (dash) between two finite moments. To make that destined time immortal is what will really matter and we are really really blessed to fill the gap by ourselves...I think it is wise and prudent....healthy and peaceful to fill that gap with smiles than with despair, with blessings than with blames, with positive power than with negative excuses...and certainly it will make a difference in someone's life ,someday somewhere... And may be it will make our own life divine and immortal and the least it will be a life worth living....Let's choose a life that matters ...each moment that counts in the ocean of Time .....

Mirror

Mirror does not deceive,
Mirror does not lie,
Mirror does not tease...
Years after someone's pain
Showed me a mirror image,
A shadow of life
Of an innocent mind,
A novice heart,
A trusting soul....
And a cold current
Passed though the
Spinal cord....
A memory lane revisited..
A lump got stuck in the throat....
A soul stood apart
And it's not his
It's not their's
It's mine
Fortunately or unfortunately it's mine...
No one else can visualize
The shadow of an wound
Inflicted by our own loving folks
It's deep,it's deeper than
The deepest damage
Caused by someone unknown...
You come,meet people
And give your
Sweat and blood,
Heart and soul
And have faith on them
Even beyond your imagination !
Everything seem lovely and joyful...
You promise ..
A Life time dedication for them all...
And who knows
When your own,
Your so called very own
And lovely People put boundary
All Around your soul !
Start slandering your
Unmistakable faith on them
As a mindless immaturity,
Your care for them as a gimmick
Your sweat and blood
As brainless investment
And the gesture by them
Was enough.....
To kill the faith and break the heart and soul...
But you were confused..
The dismayed soul
Is shattered but
Not convinced.....
How can this happen?
How can your rock solid faith
Being misinterpreted,
Misused and murdered
How can your faith and love
Be misunderstood and ignored???
How,how,how???
No answer!!!
You introspect,you think
You ponder,you ask yourself,
You request them, you beg
To just let you know once
Only once ..
Where did you go wrong...
How can your people..
Your own people
Can not understand you
Make some simple sense !!!
But....
To your utter surprise you
Found ..no one was even listening
Long back they all have gone....
In the dead of the darkness
With an unknown road ahead
You are left alone
Completely alone...
To fend for yourself
But with a dictum
'You have to walk the same road..'
All your love being made a joke
All your sighs interpreted as smoke
And your silence taken
As your weakness
Your unmistakable faith
Became mockery
Your divine trust strangled
Your heart broke in pieces
But even could not dare to rattle
Your tears could not stop
But even then you could not
Dare to roll them down and wipe them up....
You had a volume to speak
You had a painful box to unfold
But you couldn't...
Because the world only
Listens what it wants.....
Your so called own ones had gone
And you standing on the road
If preferred to stop,
No one will take a breath
To feel your pain and
Will not leave a chance to laugh..
A very painful moment
Even graver than seeing
Death in front
Where to go from here???
The road ahead is dark
The back doors are blocked
You are saddened,broken
But bound by your promises
To life and trust ....
But like all dark nights
End in a day
Whether you could see or not
However painful it seem
Life always leaves a healing touch !
That's the moment of
Immense pain to leave and go
Carrying some memory with you
And leaving the past in a box
For Time to unfold and unlock..
Because that was the divine call !
Your own ,so called owns
Leave no stones unturned
To flood with sympathy and care
Promising every mending act
To bring you back on the track...
But You really really painfully laugh inside
And dismayingly ask
'If no one cared in life
Why the fiasco on my death?'....
But they insist on repair and repentance
Love and every goodness further..
Shattered you silently sit and ask your soul
'Did I ever come here to gain?
Did I ever bargain with unmistakable love
Did I ever want a thing for me
Selling My integrity and soul ?'
I came here being called by them
To build a life of trust
Spent my heart and soul
And only wanted to
Plant a seed of faith, light a lamp for all..
And the pain and ridicule I received
Are enough to take a call......
A silent departure was long overdue
And who can be more trustworthy than
"Time" to play it's role
People who called you yesterday God
Left no opportunity missed
To level you mad,
The letters of love and divine appreciation
In no time
Turned ruthless accusation...
And you could not even had the
Luck to explain...
Because they leveled the stamp on you
'For petty gains you moved on..'
Painfully enough some people and relations
Were left behind but a lesson for life was learnt !
Today Witnessing the pain of
Parting and moving                                                                                                                                 In In another soul...
Reminded me all...
But you don't need to worry
Or stop ...
Just moving and thanking them
For being a part
Of life is all you need to do
And rest will be taken care of
By Time and God
The ultimate judge,,,.
And again the mirror
Will never lie even to those...

But with a dictum
'You have to walk the same road..'
All your love being made a joke
All your sighs interpreted as smoke
And your silence taken
As your weakness
Your unmistakable faith
Became mockery
Your divine trust strangled
Your heart broke in pieces
But even could not dare to rattle
Your tears could not stop
But even then you could not
Dare to roll them down and wipe them up....
You had a volume to speak
You had a painful box to unfold
But you couldn't...
Because the world only
Listens what it wants.....
Your so called own ones had gone
And you standing on the road
If preferred to stop,
No one will take a breath
To feel your pain and
Will not leave a chance to laugh..
A very painful moment
Even graver than seeing
Death in front
Where to go from here???
The road ahead is dark
The back doors are blocked
You are saddened,broken
But bound by your promises
To life and trust ....
But like all dark nights
End in a day
Whether you could see or not
However painful it seem
Life always leaves a healing touch !
That's the moment of
Immense pain to leave and go
Carrying some memory with you
And leaving the past in a box
For Time to unfold and unlock..
Because that was the divine call !
Your own ,so called owns
Leave no stones unturned
To flood with sympathy and care
Promising every mending act
To bring you back on the track...
But You really really painfully laugh inside
And dismayingly ask
'If no one cared in life
Why the fiasco on my death?'....
But they insist on repair and repentance
Love and every goodness further..
Shattered you silently sit and ask your soul
'Did I ever come here to gain?
Did I ever bargain with unmistakable love
Did I ever want a thing for me
Selling My integrity and soul ?'
I came here being called by them
To build a life of trust
Spent my heart and soul
And only wanted to
Plant a seed of faith, light a lamp for all..
And the pain and ridicule I received
Are enough to take a call......
A silent departure was long overdue
And who can be more trustworthy than
"Time" to play it's role
People who called you yesterday God
Left no opportunity missed
To level you mad,
The letters of love and divine appreciation
In no time
Turned ruthless accusation...
And you could not even had the
Luck to explain...
Because they levelled the stamp on you
'For petty gains you moved on..'
Painfully enough some people and relations
Were left behind but a lesson for life was learnt !
Today Witnessing the pain of
Parting and moving                                                                                                                                 In another soul...
Reminded me all...
But you don't need to worry
Or stop ...
Just moving and thanking them
For being a part
Of life is all you need to do
And rest will be taken care of
By Time and God
The ultimate judge,,,.
And again the mirror
Will never lie even to those...

Parting time...

To meet,to know
To love and to part
Is the sad story of
Many a human heart...

Said a great poet long time back...It reminds me a saga...less thought about... More judged and often misinterpreted... But at the end...it is between (him/her or) you and God..

It was never between (he/she and they or )you and they...

My thought goes...

Two little souls with loads of love in heart
And a handful of dreams on their lashes
With divine determination in mind
Paused on the road of life
Thought for a while
Deviated from the easy one
Often taken by a lot
Ventured on a path less travelled by
With empty hands but just a honest dream
To love and to live
To make the world around them
A little better place when they leave
Than ever they entered in
That was intended to take the risk
To take a Path less travelled by
And not to follow
where there is a path but
To create one and leave a trail...

The journey continued
A shorter on the outer world
But a much longer inside
A battle fought, fought more often with inner self
And make one better than( him/her) only your yesterday
Not competing the outer world...
A path less visualised
Less often walked
And still less followed
But worth dedicating a life...

Two good little souls
Often at this junction stumble
And fumble and become still

What went wrong ?

They stand and stare
Pause and recollect
Not easy to get a clue..

Is there anything wrong at all..?
All these hues and criers
And dissapontments and angers
Are the byproduct
Of the facts, both the souls are lovely
It is the expectations of
The world around
Nothing can go imbalance
Between two little thoughts
So beautifully woven
Looking like God's own creation
No one can ever part ways
To make a divine dream
Looking mortal like any other
Mundane one...

The welwishers wounded,
The thoughtfuls are shattered
All are right in their part

The friends lash and bash,
The intelectuals are eager to judge
The day and nights are filled
With passions and angers
Frustrations and sense of loss
Enthusiastics don't hesitate
To call their yesterday's God
A demon
Few friends turn foe
(He/She or) you
With your same beautiful heart
Firmly in place
More resolved than your yesterday
But not unlikely to get a overnight
Demotion from a hero to a villain
From a rescuer to an opportunist
From a divine power to a greedy bug

But that's probably not the crux of the matter
Nor the deepest wound in ones soul
The parting way is the cruelest of all
And the falling leaves from the faithful tree
Hurts most of all

This is a poignant moment
A moment to stare and ponder

Outer noise is there but will lose
Its echo as the dust settles down
The louder voices of frustration and fear
Will fade away in time's horizon
People will go back home
With their unhappiness on shoulder
But (he/she or) you will carry on
With life's ups and downs
The so called glorious moments
And the deepest sorrows you encounter
(He/she or )you have to march ahead
Drink the unthinkable pain of the departure
Can't look back or pause
Neither have the right to do so
Life has no rewinding technique
To go back and .....it goes on....

Life at this junction is more of a duty
And surely not a choice as depicted alike
By the critics and the bystanders and more so
As if (he/she or) you even don't
Deserve a thought of sympathy
Leave a hand of care

(He/she or) You are confused, hurt
Traumatized to the core
But what is the explanation
And who is the taker !

But( he/she or )you know the truth...
Someone sometime and someway
Had to bear the brunt

Because the journey started with
The two little souls and a small
But firm dream of building a block

Shattered is the soul
(He/she or) you...
People say imminent is the fall
And the story is over for all

But the truth is that
Even two little souls with a same goal
Can very well have the idea of two
Different roads to move
And as ' time 'at times gives the cruelest laugh at us
And decides ...
Can't walk hand in hand
And take the different road...

So someone will have to
Pull the trigger, take the blame on shoulder
And drink all the pain of parting
From the ones with whom
(He/she or) you dreamed to walk forever..

Parting is immensely painful
And more so when it happens
Between two selfless/divine soul..

But that's the half narration If at all
Of an eternal journey
With faith in the heart however heavy it may seem
And an Hope in the soul...

Long after the bitter memories are fade
The noises and whispers lost
The lonely nights are bombarded
With merciless questions to answer
Life goes on...
Everyone who judged you today
Will not even be visiting
The lost memory lane
The dusts that created storms
Will not even bother to be there..

And the judgement day will arrive
With only one witness of your own..
'Time to testify you,
Your vices and virtues
And translate the silent evening
And lonely night of the parting day
And your ultimate reward will
Neither come from critics or followers
Nor from the hell or heaven
But here and only here from God
Yours and their's ultimate judge...

And the story will end that day
And reveal it was never between
You and them
It was always between you and God...

Devotion...a way of life or an illusion...

Nachiketa asked his father, 'Father, whom are you giving me ?' His father did not reply.Again and again he asked till his father out of repeated irritation replied."I will give you to Yamraj'(God of death)...Says Kathopanishad...Read years back.
Why am I writing on this? Like many contemporary believers not long ago I was also going to places of prayer, getting pooja at my home sometimes and standing in queques to deliver my prayer and an illusive coconut to offer... But a question came to mind 'Are these real devotion ?' Few years back we wanted to have Satyanarayan Pooja at my place as done in many households in Maharashtra and the person who had to come to do the pooja could not come and instead sent someone who was his colleague to do the pooja. The list of the things and necessities for the pooja (so called pooja samagri) as enlisted by the gentleman pujari was exhaustive.I used my logic and bought only the  necessities which seemed ethical even at that point. At the end of the pooja I marked that the so called poojari almost weighed the rice, the lentils, checked each bit of the clothes and was not looking happy at all and to say the least he never used any of those packets for any use in pooja! I further marked he packed everything leaving only the Sthapana place and the Satyanarayan photo for me to handle later. When I offered him the Dakshina 'He told,'Madam, what should I ask you,I am giving you some concession as I work in the department whom you serve as a doctor, but I charge for the hours I spend for the pooja'.Taking note of his devotion to God,I replied,'No pujariji, you can take your full charge and I do not need any concession ''and handed over to him few more 500 rupee notes to keep his devotion in right spirit..and decided not to fall prey to such devotional illusions in future..Started seeing God in every morning sun and evening star..There after never thought of ever needing any pooja...

Recently got the great fortune to understand the Indian spiritual and real concept of devotion and got the glimpse of the illusions we are surrounded with..Am going to elaborate further below. That made me to review and recollect Nachiketa's story in Kathopanishad..The story to flow first in nutshell for those who have not read it and as a metaphor for the ones who are aware of it..The story goes like this in brief..

When Gautam, father of Nachikata and the son of great  Vajashrava (who was famous for distributing food in charity) desirous of heaven performs a yajna named Viswajit and does intend to give away all that he possess,Nachiketa then a 9 year old child witnesses his father giving away  money to food to herd of cattle and he is not able to reach the sacred meaning of his father's actions. He is anxious that his father who is performing the yajna with desire should attain its fulfillment. But in his knowledge of shastras he knew that the sacrifice called Viswajita will be fully potent only when the performer sacrifices everything that he posseses.Kathopanishad translation says 'But somehow, due to some sense of attachment and delusory feeling of proprietorship, the old man has decided to make small compromise between injunctions of the shastras and his own promoted impulses' so thought Nachiketa in his immaturity. In this inner conflict of Vajashravas ,so clearly indicated by his external actions, Nachiketa reads a sure tragedy in store for his father in future. Being the great son and disciple of his father he thinks it is his primary duty to let his father attain heaven what he drsired and goes and asks his father..'Father,to whom will thou give me?" Initially the father ignores his question. But Nachiketa, the true seeker repeats and hearing the question third time ,from the father a harmless curse bursts out in disgust.. 'Unto Death do I give thee'..equivalent to any angry Englishman's 'Go to hell'!...

Matured soul as that of Nachiketa thinks , not actually sacrificing all his possessions, he is actually doing "adharma in the name of dharma'.Then he hints to his father that as we are born again and again , life must necessarily end after a period of existence and that, compared to the Endless Time, the life span of an individual ego living on this globe is but momentary. The general import suggested is that when life is so fleeting why should one stoop down to perpetrate Adharma, temped by one's own delusion and false attachment? Nachiketa comforting his father and persuading him to allow him to act up to the high ideals in which the true Aryans ever walked in the past, left his home and entered the domain of Death. There he arrived at the Portico of Death and the boy had to wait for three days and nights, since Lord Death was then 'out of station'.When Yamraj, the Lord of Death comes back home and sees a bhramana guest ( The word bhrahmana in this connection means not The one who has come to claim it as an accidental privilege of birth, but it means one who has the necessary cultural purity and mental and intellectual powers manifested in him as an individual) standing on his door  unfed for 3 days waiting to meet him, bows down to Nachiketa and asks for forgiveness and requests him to ask for any 3 boons he desires. As a matter of fact ,it is surprising that such a Godly Power as Lord Death Himself should bow down in modesty in front of his guest,a boy merely nine years old,and beg of him to pardon the host's inevitable lapses. Those were the days when governors themselves courageously step over their own laws ! So the principled soul, the great disciple Nachiketa who denounces all the worldly wealth and pleasure willingly being gifted to him by none other than Dharmaraj, the God of Death and want Him to bless with the knowledge to know 'what happens to the soul after death?..and finally passes all the tests given by God of Death..

That's what Kathopanishad elaborates further. On this background and metaphor now I want to discuss our contemporary understanding of devotion and what we generally practice is  merely an illusion and not true devotion I suppose. The analysis goes as follows...

In recent past a wealthy businessman ,a so called devotee of Mahavir prays 'O God,if my this 10000 crore businesses is successful I will build a marble temple for u'..What a misconception/misunderstanding/illusions he carries...Mahavir Jain ,such a liberated soul who had left his palace and dynasty for salvation and didn't even bother for a piece of cloth on his Body is offered a price of a marble temple in lieu of granting successful businesses..!!! The story repeats for Hindu,Muslim,Christian and many more faiths across. We the devotees of Vishnu,Maheshwar,Ram,Krishna, Mohammed, Christ,Sai Baba really really don't understand them and hardly follow the values they really symbolized and established on Earth and merely say we are so and so devotee and never leave a chance to go round and round their so called dwelling places and beg what not.. and allure/ bribe a coconut,, a flower basket,a fire sacrifice ,feed 10 undeserving people and donate Gold, silver,Diamond , currency and what not as if Ram went 14 years to Jungle not to establish the devotion of a son to father, love for his brothers and no attachment to the kingdom or be the king..and we fight and bribe to get undue favour from him..what a loss of path !! So also for Krishna, who in each step guarded Dharma, the right path and action and smilingly accepted Gandhari's curse to lose his family.. So also Neelakantha Shiva gulped the poison unhindered and Mohd everyday smiled at the old lady throwing garbage on him.Christ, the divine soul as he was, prays for forgiveness for the perpetrators putting him on the cross and Nanak ,when his father sends him to the field was so kind to think at the age of 7 that the bird and the field both are God's creation and who am I to drive the bird away from eating the wheat?..And when most of our contemporary devotion plays role,it is nothing beyond seeking good material fortune or not to have to face any trouble without any appropriate karma and bribing our so called Gods or ideals in life.. We may intend to allure and bribe the great enlightened souls anything material which infact none belongs to us but we will not take an iota of efforts to follow their footsteps...What a tragic and ironical misinterpretation of devotion !!!

God or any enlightened soul to my small little mind is nothing but goodness, truth, justice and divine karma...and if we plant an apple tree sooner or later,in this life or that life the fruit is going to be an apple and never a neem and the vice versa. And who can we depend more than the creater, the nature, the God whatever we may wish it to name ,to give us justice than Him? This is just our illusion to please Him in our own way and ask for favours in return. I think we only can surrender if at all as humans and rest justice will surely follow in its own time, place, pace and way.. And He will surely grant us what we need really may not be what we desire and misinterprete. That's the Divine power..I believe.. And devotion is best lived as a way of life .... God bless one and all...

Religious conversion... A reality check !

India the land of the most ancient knowledge , Vedas faces a dilemma of spate of religious conversion issues and related problems and consequences. Nature has probably blessed India with its treasures in open hands and I don't see any other part of the world is so blessed in so many aspects. Vedas were born, transcended by listening and memorising, written, translated and the knowledge was spread by Indians far and wide. Upanishads were lived here as the way of life. We were blessed with Aryabhattas much before Greece excelled in Maths, God had gifted us Charak and Shushrut much before modern medicine flourished in western world ! Not long ago India was blessed to have Chanakya, probably the greatest political and economic expert of all times . So in short India was always a great land of true knowledge and diversity. It naurished humanity at her breast and civilizations in her cradle and truely became great for its unique geographical as well as spiritual blessings. It had great rulers from Ashoka to Akbar, scholars from Birbal to Tenali. Even today we are as respectful to Dalai lama as to Nelson Mandela,as to Barrack Obama to Shinzo Abe all alike... Kabir , born to parents of one religion ,brought up by parents of another religion is revered by one and all. So who gets converted and who can convert whom ? Thinking further I have already said dharma is eternal and universal and religion is a mere way of doing/living/following some rituals in a particular way by a segment of society. So clearly no can change anyone's dharma as dharma itself is unchangeable. And by forcing or coaxing one may be sent to temple or mosque or church but can not convert a man to a machine. History says two Mughal rulers who almost ruled India for a century i.e.Akbar 47 years and Aurangzeb 50 years had extremely diverse results. Akbar though had to put a great struggle to be where he placed himself and India , was accepted as the greatest ruler because of his universal policies and especially his deeper understanding of religion and dharma and his respect for people of other faiths and he will be in our heart for his contribution of "Din-i-lahi'  meaning 'the religion of God ' and his indomitable love for talent and truth. At the same time Aurangzeb though an equally able general and strong ruler miserably failed and died fighting a lonely battle because of his wrong notions and phanaticism. He might have been successful in forcefully converting people to follow a particular faith but utterly failed to impress them, resulting devastation in the following time and a ruined India which slowly and steadily slipped into British rule and lost not only its independence but also the moral strength. If today we repeat similar mistake and slip in to slumber we will again go back to basics. So,it is prudent and wise not to be illusioned by myths and misgivings and promote another wrong in the name of rectifying one.If the economically weaker ones ,the socially looked down ones really are getting converted I am sure they are not looking for a better God in a Church than in a temple. But they are looking for a better life,an equal opportunity and an environment where no one tells them not to enter a religious place or not stand or sit in the same row for prayer. That's the area to be addressed. Even today foreigners are not allowed in our temples and the so called care takers of God do whatever malpractices they can to bias/cheat/influence the so called devotees who foolishly/selfishly and happily fall prey in their hands in the name of being religious. If we can really convert something let us convert ignorance to knowledge, darkness to light and ,myths to truth and poverty to prosperity.
If we need to change we need to change our mindset, our behaviour and improve our logic of doing  something and not bother whether one  goes to temple or Mosque or Church to pray.
When I read the biography of Dr.Ambedkar ,I got a real glimpse of his hardship, his aspirations, his vision and his contribution and the depth of  his frustration till end. I hope a majority of you will agree with me when you know him deeper ,and will feel such a learned scholar ,a man who gathered dust and sweat to reach where he reached and did such a wonderful job for the country can not be frustrated in vain. In the last few years of his life he,a born Hindu practised Buddhisim as he was suffocated with so called Hindu society restrictions and negligence. So the story could be same for many more even today. Though the division of the society to 4 sections started in early Vedic age aiming to make the functions discrete and easy for people,it really never meant to overstate or understate any duty/work or make any section superior/inferior to the other. In later Vedic age the true sense got diluted leaving monopoly to some sections and leading to pitiable conditions of some other sections resulting in  breakage in harmony, social stability ,  rebellion, frustration, reservation and convenient advantage to the vote bank policies and mockery of dance of democracy of the great country ! So we need to stick to the essence and not the loose over reaction to the issue. Let's all pray..Tamasoma jyotirgamaya.. Asatoma sadgamaya...

Dharma/Religion....Our contemporary understanding...A bird's eye view...

Dharma, the eternal word is/was/will with all it's humility and benevolence will make sense to the sensibles ! But a large majority of the society is terribly unaware of its true meaning/sense/logic and has a biased understanding of it and really really misinterprets its spirit...

Not long ago I also didn't have much clarity of what it really stands for and was never intrigued by its meaning as it  probably  had never interfered much in my personal life. Certainly had a sense of doubt about its common interpretation but had not tried much to think deeper or understand better.Fortunately in recent past got the chance to  understand it far better and learn deeper and it made a lot of sense to me,so I  thought of sharing my learning... may be it will help someone to get the real sense of it leaving the myth/misconception to others to clarify and convince themselves as time progresses....

In my contemporary knowledge I always had seen, heard, felt and experienced larger society often using Dharma and Religion as synonyms of a single concept. But really it is not true.It may be just used in everyday life like that but deeply they are different entities.I am afraid there is an exact word in English dictionary for the sankrit word 'Dharma''.Religeon is at best can be understood as a particular way of doing things/observing rituals or celebrating festivals by a particular faction/group of society. It might have incorporated some of the principles of Dharma also. But the nearest words interpreting the true meaning of Dharma to me is nature. For example Fire's  'dharma' is to burn,Wind's 'dharma' is to blow ,Water'r 'dharma' is to flow...so on and so forth. The Sun rises in the morning and sets in the evening. It's Sun's Dharma/nature.'Dharma'is universal law.It is eternal, all pervasive. Religion is devided into many 'isms' depending on following certain ways of life/rituals and beliefs. But 'dharma', is the natural law/the justice/the truth and it is universal.Someone may see his God in a temple, the other one in Mosque,3rd one in church,Gurudwara and some one may know God is in every being. So they can interpret them as Hindu,Muslim,Jain,Boudh,Ishai,Bahaian,Parsi and so on.But Dharma is same for all. Best way to understand Dharma is to see, observe, appreciate and be grateful to Nature. When there is rain it does not discriminate between Hindu city/Muslim city/Christian city. There is no Zorastrian fire or Jain Fire.So Dharma is Dharma only.It has no 'ism' as it's suffix. When Srikrishna teaches Arjun in Gita  He utters 'Yada yada hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bharata...Abhyuthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srijamy aham...Paritranaya sadhunam, vinashayacha dushkritan sambhavami yuge yuge..'  He never said Hindu dharmasya/Boudha dharmasya/Ishai dharmasya...

So where did we get confused/lost our way..lost the meaning, interpretation of dharma and started fighting on someones or others beliefs and notions.Buddha never told he is Buddhist,Mahavir never told he is Jain/Krishna /Ram never told they follow Hinduism. They all stood for what is right, what is just, what is natural. The God/the creater/the protector is certainly not confined in a Mosque/a church/a temple/a fire temple or a gurudwara.  I believe there is someone, some supreme power who makes and protects us as logically/scientificall I can't get the answers to so many things which not only man can not make, but can not think, imagine, interpret and comprehend even. That's my belief in God/Allah/Jesus/Zorastra/Nanak/ Ram/Krishna/Shiv whatever you feel calling Him..God can be He or She .But God is primarily in our heart/in our soul and Dharma resides in our conscience/the inner sense. No rituals/followings/fasts/religious fanfare can alter the eternal Dharma .It's only our beliefs.Fair enough. We can have our beliefs but as long as it does not harm someone else. How much shlokas we read/how many gallons of milk we pour on a piece of stone we can not make it float on water nor our rituals/fasts/yagnas can never drown few droplets of oil in water...That's their nature. That's true dharma..eternal,all pervasive and was/is and will live till the universe exists...Let's think deeper...Let's see the light of Dharma not the shadow of religious interpretation of a great concept...Satyamev Jayate..

Can I do it? Can we do it ? ?? Yes I probably can and we certainly can...
Sangita wrote y'day her thought responding to my view on "my country.. Whose responsibility it is anyway'.She agreed with me but has a grievance about freebies and tax collection system application in our country. With due respect to her point I feel its worth giving the issue a deeper thought and discuss it further to analyse what the real situation is and what we need to know, consider, change and do about it.Here goes my thought. Yes ,we the so called middle class generally have a grievance of paying taxes truthfully and the lower and higher economy order just escape. Our list of grievances just does not stop there.when our children don't get a seat by competition we conveniently blame the reservation system, when we get a transfer we get up to fight against discrimination, when we don't get jobs,we think our talent is a waste in this country and the degrees we have acquired with our sweat and turmoil is not recognized... And the endless list goes on..Saying yes to all this which might have been my grievances as well till few years back, but today I will prefer to think, analyse, act and promote slightly differently because I learnt whatever little we see and think are certainly true but not the whole truth and we really don't stand up and do the right thing when they confront us,our comfort and safety. Most of us really don't have the courage to stand to the reality so why not feel blessed in the given situation if we can't take the risks associated with the change we want to bring and really stand up to our conviction even when things don't favor us !
Often we travel long to perform duties and at times get difficult situations to deal with and we get frustrated and more so when someone gets favour not to travel and perform such duty. But when i look around I see the station is full of desperate youths standing in line for not less than 5 hours and I don't know in how many multiples of the few seats available in the general compartment to get in. I think of them,my frustration turns to a blessing and grievances of an honest tax payer turns to gratitude of getting a decent berth while million s of country men can not afford to buy a second class ticket in a train for 40 hrs journey and stand and squeeze and not having scope for even nature's call ! Really a scene which can move anyone! Are all these youth not talented to be educated enough or earn enough to stay in a 2 room house, have enough to pay for basic needs of life ? Will I or will we not want a decent life, clean air, water, basic education for our children and other fellow Indians ? For that u and I need to contribute and the most logical way is various tax structure. So we should feel good about paying taxes honestly as others have contributed so much sacrifices for our upbringing, our education, the decent lifestyle we have and the money we proudly earn. Is it all ours only ? I am sure not. The lady who works for me at home, the workers who help to run our institutions, collect our garbage are not less important and deserve equal opportunity like us to be eligible to be tax payer...Coming to high economic segment, we don't exactly have economic knowledge to assess their tax. But if at all they are evading tax why the middle class not exposing them ? How many of us stand by someone who dares to take on that ? How many of will contribute for clean politics and governance and really have the guts to stand up to take the step at least on personal level? Let us not bribe someone to get undue things done for selfish motives even knowing the deserving ones are left.Let us fund political movements by voting right people and small little contributions of few thousand rupees which is white and gives us legitimate rights to ask why they resort to corruption and all back channel routes .Till then let's be happy with God's grace for the honest lot, contribute a bit of reverence to the vast majority of less fortunate ones and building and supporting a legacy of honesty, efficacy and non corruption. I am sure they are the different angles of the same agenda... Together we can.. Let's try...

Where did the magic word of love vanish in the jungle of hatred, cruelty, gruesome killing of innocent journos/pilots /people, rapes and rubbery on the streets... ? Disturbing news of killings, beheading of fellow humans in the morning overshadowing achievements of drones delivering things ,supersonic jet planes, high speed trains, universal connectivity,Olympic medals and chandrayan success story to name a few ! Khalil Gibran wrote
The king,the ass and I
Tomorrow we all will die
The king for power, the ass for hunger
And I for love !
Amidst the negativities in the soaring human mind,my heart was longing for a peaceful, loving humanity around, a dream I wish to be planted in every soul..
Jesus Christ died smiling on the cross forgiving the perpetrators and living for ages for love for mankind,Buddha left the cozi kingdom to search the remedy for human misery and lit the candle for kindness forever,so also prophet Mohd,Nanak,Mahavir and Krishna the ultimate power on earth. In recent world history not long ago humanity witnessed the power of love exercised by Gandhiji defeating the mighty Britishers without a single arm/ammunition not even ever using harsh words and died for the love for peace..So it's a point to ponder? Why so much of unrest ? I know nature rewards and punishes immediately when we even have good and bad thoughts. To my mind it comes, there might be issues beyond our comprehension ,beyond imagination and while trying to carry out hasty reactions the world powers, the thinkers and intellectual mass should find the root of such barbaric act by fellow humans and with Patience and love try to address the issue.Hatred only will bring more hatred and more heads will be down this side or that..and that's a jolt to peace and trauma to mother earth. But at the end if the perpetrators are reasonably found to be unreasonable , the formula for Rajdharma depicted by the great sage Vyasdev of counselling-ordering and punishing can be used to bring peace and safety on the world... A timely step may prevent the earth from suffering a self inflicted tragedy which can never be compensated in millenniums to come...ohm Shanti...ohm shanti...

My country... Whose responsibility it is anyway ???
Months back sometime I expressed my unhappiness about my country's current situation and Mayuri wrote back..Swadhin,India is a great country or else why from Britishers to Portuguese, From Mohd Ghori to Mohd Ghazani, from Babar to Huenshang will be attracted to it ?' I clarified my stand 'Yes Mayuri ,I agree ,India is a great country but I don't have the same feeling about Indians amongst whom I am also one'.But as we are advancing in age and our maturity takes centre stage amongst all other parameters I feel we Indians have lot to learn, lot to contribute to our great country and can not,I repeat can not expect to have cozy evenings in balcony leaving the responsibility of the country's present and future on someone else's shoulder and dream of miracles..Long back I read one article by Mr.Manoj Das where he describes one incident in Japan. One night while travelling he notices a group of people peacefully standing in a queue and while enquiring why are they standing there at night a Japanese citizen replies 'we are protesting for some of our grievances' He asks 'at night ?' They reply 'Yes,sir, the day is for the country .we can't afford to use it for protest. So we protest at night.' That's the kind of patriotism which will take our country to a greater height not a mob vandalizing institutions, authorities, breaking all records of decibels while so called grievances are expressed in our country. Leaving private company offices we find in Government set ups work culture is extremely shabby ,I again say this Bombay being one of the best places in India where even the ladies doing our household work have far more ethical standards of work than in other parts of the country. What I want to say 'can we all diligently, religiously work for 8 hours a day for the work/duty /country we are entrusted with?If yes, then 21st century is ours,no one can take the glory from us if each of us follow only 2 principles in life.. Honesty and Hard work. Now coming to the other side of the coin. The PM,the CMs,the parliamentarians, the legislators and administrators...what should we expect from them ? In my small little mind I dream my leader to have the same ingredient like me,like us honesty and hard work.I expect him to be fair in his dealings. I want him to be honest to the core that he can't think of doing anything wrong for the country and people. Like the media and opposition alike I don't want my country men to ask day in and out..'How will you,by what hours dead line will you give people 20000 litre water/day or 50 % power tariff cut ? ' I just think how foolish are we when even we ask such questions. Power and water or the country's finances and resources are no ones pocket money to be given. It is all ours. I don't have the foolish idea of a miracle man producing them by magic. But as a loyal citizen I expect my leader not to take an extra bucket of water to his house till the water is distributed equally to all the people. I expect him to pay his power, water and restaurant bills, education bills like all citizens , that's what it is meant to be to bring real change..not miracles I suppose... So u and I,me and they matter...Let's sparea thought, spare a moment...!

Why are we so eager to give our verdict to someone or something quickly ? Why are we so impatient to write, scetch, opine, judge an event ,a person without looking anything in and around it and what bothers me is the way we knowingly/unknowingly ridicule/criticise/malign something or someone in such a way which is not only painful for that person ,organisations/event ,it is detrimental for the society and humanity at large. Why at the first place I am in the morning giving a deep thought and writing on this mass impatience and judgement ? Some reports in the media both in social and mainstream always bothers me because in the name of freedom some people go overboard. It is not only unprofessional, but unethical, inhumane and harmful. In a moment of glory for people like me who love righteousness and the country's every galore to the core it is a moment of happiness but its humbling. It's not right to ridicule and enjoy someone 's defeat.I saw some disturbing scetches of India-Pakistan cricket victory-loss which bothered me to write few lines.Win/loss are two sides of a coin.Like birth and death it is basic to every game.We are Democratic but need to be matured. Will u love if we lose and someone ridicules us? Why so overboard in praise and criticism. There are volatile minds everywhere. So let us restrain ourselves not to showcase our creative genius to ridicule someone.Be happy in your victory. But it's not wise to celebrate someone's loss.Only people with narrow mind/narrow vision resort to such methods. We as the matured and wise billion plus vibrant democracy don't need to stoop down so low to provocate someone and not realise our mistake thinking that we have freedom to anything and all our acts are golden and I am sure not have the heart to take a failure from Indian team just as another game and life is full of ups and downs.Probably my message is equanimity and balance in life will surely take us to new heights not knee jerk reaction and arrogance. Let's be strong from within, outer fanfare just doesn't last long.Have a wonderful day ahead!
