In the next Operation Theatre day there was staff availability issue and all 3 of our cases for surgery got cancelled. Taking the opportunity of available time,I discussed the Ergonomics in Surgical environment and especially in Endoscopic procedures. Starting from optics to camera, from screen to cables, from stirrup position to table height adjustment, from target organ to Base ball Diamond concept, from focal length to monitor dimensions, from white balance to primary, secondary trocar insertion angles...we discussed bit by bit and at the end of the discussion I probably learnt more than I taught the students. Vrinda was happy to learn all the points and pat camenfrom her mouth
" Ma'am, you told us almost fifty points, Kash I could have written few of them,I feel like going back to exam hall, snatching the paper from invigilator and rewrite the answer "- We all laughed on the spontaneity of her comment.
A point to ponder lived longer inside me- long after the class is over, the discussion is put in back burner...and we all going back to hostels and home,to take the car drive back home or the auto ride to the nearest station... How and why's of Ergonomics of Life. May be it was easier ,much easier to understand the Ergonomics of port position for Laparoscopy and rewrite the answer than to learn and execute the Ergonomics of life and rewrite any answer.... There is no readjustment or rewinding button in life....
Life often takes us through unimaginable, unsolvable situations, not easy to get the clue where is the target organ....What position will give the best operative outcome, it's often more of a puzzle than a well tried and tested formula. One day you are given a problem in hand with a rosy outcome, the other day it's a desert and you have no clue if there is an oasis or it's just an mirage illusion...Life is seldom understood, less often calculated and least often can be planned...The Ergonomics of life probably doesn't have a fixed formula, it may differ from morning to evening, from you to me,from us to them ,from a giving heart to a receiving one...The designer is not an instrument making company who can modify the angulation of the instruments or the focal lengths of optics...It is the ultimate designer who decides who enters our lives ,who goes out. Which route or angle they take. How long they stay, what is the purpose of each one in our lives....Some may come briefly and very unpredictability leave but entirely change our ergonomics for life and beyond, some may come in unexpectedly, when we least expect miracles and they bring so much light and grace it makes life an absolute base ball Diamond circle with exact amount of attention and care like a type one lever. But all leave their mark on us,they teach us something or other....Long after their entry or departure, the effect lasts and it changes our lives for ever, the Ergonomics of life changes without our notice and control unlike we can do it for instrument ports in a surgical field....But in spite of the plethora of difference between the two, there is one vital thing common to both , if we follow some principles in life, some ethics in life, the Ergonomics will always be kind and God will put the ports exactly right and the soul will find it's lesson from each moment 's dynamics and will reach sooner or later the purpose of it,and that day will be clear to us why and how of life's Ergonomics and the Divine 's port positions will be brilliantly right...Let's walk the path and follow the design and angles He is directing us in every morning and night... That's probably His expectations from us,the students of life....
Spare a moment ! Spare a thought !!!
